The principal objective of the Jesuit Historical Institute is the development and promotion of studies concerning the history of the Society of Jesus. Its research fellows are engaged in a wide range of academic initiatives. In this task its members collaborate world-wide with historians and academics interested in exploring the history of the Society of Jesus and its impact on local cultures. Special attention is given to the study and publication of primary sources, both manuscript and printed, related to the history of the Jesuit Order. The Institute participates in and organizes scholarly conferences, seminars, exhibitions, as well as other cultural activities. It also promotes joint publications of monographs about the history of the Society. Another area of concern of the Institute is the conservation of cultural artifacts, documents, and printed books related to the Society of Jesus. The Institute has emeriti as well as corresponding fellows. Every year the Institute also provides scholarships for researchers interested in studying various aspects of the history of the Society.
